Welcome to My World

~DreamOne afternoon, a blind man from Nashville heard Ondee sing, “I Have a Dream”. He listened quietly and then turned to her and said, “girl, you are alternative-soul”! This assessment best describes Ondee’s sound…

~SoundOndee’s exposure to the musical arts started early. Her parents are writers and musicians so it wasn’t surprising that at the age of 3 Ondee started writing lyrics to the music that filled her childhood home (her mother has the tapes to prove it). She would perform original tunes in the small, inner-city church where her grandfather pastored. Grandpa would pick Ondee up and place her on the altar so everyone could see her. The mic wouldn’t reach so she would sing her little heart out, a lesson in vocal projection. Ondee remembers the early years…“Daddy would play hard core jazz on his guitar all day long it seemed and mama would blast black gospel on an 8 track in the kitchen.” Ondee’s father was big on the history and pioneers of country music and so she thought she would be on the Grand Ole’ Opry by the time she was 7. “I studied classical piano from the time I could read and had to clap out rhythms for daddy before I could go outside and play. My older cousin would bring over the hardest rock records out there and I was always in awe of the soaring vocals and screaming guitars. Music was everywhere and everything but not just one “type” of music…I loved it all!”

~Boxes of Songs
Ondee grew up in the Bay Area, a community rich with diversity and culture. This upbringing contributed to her unique musical style, a style that embraces many genres including pop, gospel, rock, jazz, R&B, and folk. Ondee received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from California State University, Hayward. Her musical compositions are moving accounts of life, love, hope, and pain. “I’ve had a great life but I’ve also been through some messy stuff, lived in the real world so to speak. The painful songs are the easiest ones for me to write”. Ondee has recently written lyrics to music her father composed on his patented guitar invention, The J.S. Avant.

~StyleOndee’s gift for writing, unique style, and powerful voice set her apart from other artists. Her father, Paul, a music major, wanted her to be able to be heard "without a mic", the sign of a “true” singer. He encouraged her to blend registers, develop vocal texture, qualities, and color. Those early lessons in projection really helped promote vocal strength. “Singing came easy to me but my dad would constantly push me to expand my range and to deliver a song with power, control, and conviction”. “Jesus gave me the gift and my parent’s cultivated it”.

~ArtOndee is known for her live emotional performances and resides in Nashville, TN, with her husband and daughter where she is constantly honing her craft, performing, painting, and pursuing her dream.
